The first time I heard these words I was staring angrily into the piercing blue eyes of my husband. I had just emptied out a mountain of internal garbage .. verbal throw up style.. right into his lap. As I was justifying all of the righteous reasons I had to be upset with people around me, my husband suggested to me that maybe my "real" problem had more to do with what was going on inside of me...
I'll be honest , it took me a few days to overcome the hurt and get to the place of reptencance. Pride is a fleshly beast that seems to often terrorize our every waking thoughts. After some reflecting I realized that I needed to find some "fresh water" .. fresh resources to replenish a dry.. and depleted well.. that was breaking down slowly.. I needed more Jesus going in.. if I wanted more Jesus to come out.
It's possible right now, you're thinking.. "Duh" .. the Bible says that, Christen:
Luke 11:34-36 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness. Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.”

How could I,(a full time Pastor's wife.. and Christian follower of Christ).. not have resorted to that understanding immediately? .. Well.. I'm just me.. very broken.. hard headed.. loving .. kind.. mixed up .. messed up kind of human.. me. I have to be reminded here and there.. to make more room for Jesus.
Reading The Scripture above gives me instructions to follow:
1) My eyes are like a "lamp" : Be careful what I allow my eyes to see... not just physically .. but spiritually. Defiantly don't watch movies or videos.. or any content that will bring death to my body and mind.. If it's not something my God would watch.. I shouldn't either and by doing so I subject His Spirit in me to the same. But also.. "see" people through the eyes of our compassionate King.. who came to save the world .. not condemn it.
John 3:17
"God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him."
If I am "seeing" His children as He does.. than what I am perceiving and witnessing is always sure to be filled with love.
2)Be wary of "fake" light:
I think of this as comparison of a light bulb vs the sun. We are all naturally light seekers. We are born with the desire to be " in the light" it is apart of our composition. God created us to be connected to Him eternally. Our souls then.. are always longing to be filled with light. However we are easily confused and lead astray.. the world is full of false light. We call it things like .. music, drugs, friends, hobbies, money, even family... these people and things are like light bulbs. The become idols, lighting up the dark corners temporarily .. but there is always a condition attached. A switch or a plug that can be shut off.. or lose power in a split second.
Please don't misunderstand me.. these lights are truly powerful.. and some are even beneficial .. but only for a time.. a moment. All of them come short of a promise that only God himself can provide.
Psalm 135:15-18
The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them, so do all who trust in them!
Fill up your ears.. your eyes.. your time with things that grow your conversation with God.
Study His Word.. Serve His People.. Teach your loved ones to know Him. This let's the "Sunshine" in or the " Son Shine In".. Filling up all of the corners in your eternal soul with light that no man or woman can extinguish. Creating Clean Fresh Water in your Well.. so that you will be a bubbling spring of life and joy for yourself and those who are close to you.

So accurately true!
